When her son became a cop, Barbara Wurst tried not to think of all the terrible things that could happen to him.
But what brought two somber police officers to her doorstep in early hours of Dec. 27 was a scenario she had never imagined.

CHARLOTTE -- The wives of a former and a current CMPD officer describe the recovery process for an injured cop as a road full of red tape and no direction.
